- The Ring Kings Cotto-Mayweather card was full of exhilarating, ultimately predictable, results. For three of the four cards, the favorite won convincingly. The fights showed more than the judges cards and left many fighters facing huge crossroads in their careers. Whom will stars like Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, and Canelo Alvarez face next? - Carlos Quintana could look to stay in the light middle weight division after his sixth round knockout of Latimore and would hope to fight another member of the fight card: Canelo Alvarez. This might be derailed by regulations that Alvarez, as title holder, needs to face a top contender while Quintana is not in the Top 10 of the division. Foto: AP
- Latimore will have trouble finding a fight against any of the top contenders. Although Mayweather's backing may secure a fight with a top fighter (Ward, Lara, etc.), the American may want to focus his sights lowers before embarking on a dangerous losing streak. Foto: AP
- Vargas continued to impress in the vein of his mentor Floyd Mayweather Junior: good strategy, little flash. The win puts him in place to fight Alfonso Gomez who was meant to fight him in this card but withdrew due to back spasms. Vargas should be a favorite against Gomez, who lost in six rounds against Canelo Alvarez in his last outing. Foto: AP
- Steve Forbes had a clean fight against Vargas. It was a loss that didnt truly hurt his stock. He was expected to lose and did so handedly but without letting Vargas look truly dominant. Forbes is on his way out this may have been his last major fight card. With only two wins since being on The Contender, Forbes is now just a stepping stone for young promising talent. Foto: AP
- Canelo Alvarez dominated his fight against Shane Mosley, as was expected. Alvarez will now get to headline his own Pay Per View on September 15: the rumored opponent, Miguel Cotto. Alvarez, as mentioned earlier, may also be placed against Carlos Quintana although it seems doubtful the fight would be strong enough to carry PPV sales. Foto: AP
- Mosley made a respectable showing in at least ending the fight on his feet, something that seemed entirely unlikely at times on Saturday night. Just the same, this fight seemed to signal the end for Sugar Shane Mosley. Even he admitted after the fight that when the young guys can beat you like that, its time to consider retirement. Mosley has the great record of never having been knocked out in his career, if he wants to hold on to that Saturday night should be his last outing. Foto: AP
- We all know what comes next for Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Jail time. After that, the list of seasoned (and appropriate) opponents is drying up. Of course theres always a glimmer of hope that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will take place towards the end of 2012. More viable options are Canelo Alvarez, Amir Kahn, or a rematch with Victor Ortiz. Foto: AP
- Miguel Cotto seems destined to fight Saul Alvarez in his first Pay Per View card. The Puerto Rican would go in as a favorite after giving Mayweather a great fight. Sergio Martinez and James Kirkland are other strong options, although Golden Boy promotions may be reluctant to give Cotto such tough opponents. Foto: AP
